How Do Final Rounds Work?
Final Rounds can translate to "second round of judging." Certain categories are so popular that we need to divide the projects into multiple groups so it is not just 1 judge team judging 20 junior group exhibits or watching 12 senior individual documentaries. These multiple groups each send on their top 2-3 projects to a "final round" or "second round" of judging to determine the state finalists.
Think of it like a larger (more competitive) March Madness Bracket-- except there are 3 "finalists" +1 alternate
Keep in mind: students may not know they are in a finals round. We only announce final round candidates for projects that are 100% student run which are Documentaries and Performances. For Exhibits, Papers, and Websites, judges conduct final rounds behind closed doors, without interviews/students, and not knowing any of the 1st round judge comments-- fresh eyes!! Contact us for any further questions: [email protected] or (608) 264-6487
